Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind.--Trey McCorkle had 21 points and seven rebounds to lead IPFW to a 71-67 victory over North Dakota State in Summit League men's basketball Thursday, Feb. 18, before a crowd of 1,764 at Memorial Coliseum.
Deilvez Yearby scored 12 of his 15 points in the second half for the Mastodons (13-13, 8-8), who swept the season series from NDSU.
North Dakota State (10-15, 7-8) led by as many as five points midway through the second half before Yearby scored 10 straight points to key a 15-0 IPFW run.
Yearby's free throw put IPFW ahead 53-52 before he blocked a shot and buried a 3-pointer on the next possession. He followed that with a steal and coast-to-coast layup.
After a pair of free throws, another block and defensive rebound led to a Yearby layup that gave IPFW its biggest lead of the night, 62-52.
NDSU got back within three when Josh Vaughan made a 3-pointer and layup on consecutive possessions to cut the deficit to 64-61 with 2:45 to play. Those were Vaughan's only points of the night.
Two free throws by NDSU's Nate Zastrow with 24.2 seconds left made it 67-65, but Zach Plackemeier and Ben Botts each made two free throws in the final 17 seconds to keep it a four-point game.
McCorkle had 13 points before halftime as IPFW took a 33-29 lead.
Eric Carlson led the Bison with 13 points, Michael Tveidt scored 12 points and had a team-high nine rebounds, and Sam Sussenguth had 10 points and five rebounds.
IPFW shot 49 percent overall and 64 percent from the free-throw line. NDSU was 42 percent overall and made 13 of 14 free throws for 93 percent.
The Bison outrebounded IPFW 39-27.
North Dakota State is scheduled to play Oakland at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday, Feb. 20. The Golden Grizzlies are 21-8 overall and 15-1 in The Summit League after an 88-83 victory over South Dakota State on Thursday.
