Box Score FARGO, N.D.--Alex Young scored 17 of his game-high 21 points in the second half to lead IUPUI past North Dakota State 66-52 in Summit League men's basketball Thursday, Feb. 25, before a crowd of 2,395 at the Bison Sports Arena.
IUPUI shot 56 percent in the second half and improved to 21-9 overall and 14-3 in The Summit League. North Dakota State fell to 10-17 overall and 7-10 in the league.
Robert Glenn added 14 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots for the Jaguars, and Leroy Nobles and John Ashworth scored 10 points apiece.
Michael Tveidt led NDSU with 17 points and eight rebounds, Josh Vaughan made four 3-pointers and finished with 12 points, and Austin Pennick dished out a career-high eight assists for the Bison.
IUPUI led by as many as 11 points in the first half after North Dakota State went scoreless for more than 8 1/2 minutes between a pair of Vaughan 3-pointers. It was 30-22 at the break.
North Dakota State tied the game midway through the second half when Tveidt hit a 3-pointer to start a 7-0 run, Andy Nagel got an offensive rebound and putback, and Eric Carlson scored on a driving layup to make it 40-40 with 10:32 left.
The Bison went ahead 43-42 on a Carlson free throw, but Glenn's field goal on the next possession put the Jaguars ahead for good.
NDSU was within 47-44 with 7:47 left to play, but the Bison never got closer than five as Young scored nine straight IUPUI points down the stretch to keep the Jaguars ahead.
IUPUI shot 52 percent for the game and had a 33-31 rebounding advantage. NDSU shot 39 percent overall.
North Dakota State is scheduled to host Western Illinois at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, in the final regular season game of the year. The Fighting Leathernecks are 13-15 overall and 6-11 in The Summit League after a 66-53 loss at South Dakota State on Thursday.
