Box Score LAKELAND, Fla.--Bucknell scored 12 runs in the first three innings and cruised to a 19-5 victory over North Dakota State in college baseball Monday, March 15, at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
A two-run double in the second inning by catcher B.J. LaRosa followed by right fielder Andrew Brouse's three-run homer made it 7-0 and chased NDSU starter Colby Tognetti, who dropped to 0-1 with the loss.
Bucknell (7-6) put the game out of reach in the third inning when a pair of one-out singles and an error loaded the bases for second baseman Ben Yoder, whose grand slam to left field made it 11-0.
Bucknell sent 10 batters to the plate in both the second and third innings before finally going down in order in the fourth inning.
North Dakota State (3-7) got its first runner aboard in the bottom of the fourth on a double by right fielder Justin Kline, who finished 3-for-4 with two doubles.
Kline had an RBI single in the sixth to score Nic Obey, who led off the inning with a double and finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs.
Obey brought in two runs in the seventh with a two-out double that scored designated hitter Eric Nutzhorn and catcher Tyler Steen. Nutzhorn was 2-for-4 at the plate.
Tognetti allowed seven runs on five hits with two walks and no strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings for NDSU. Alex Chaput and Glenn Parker pitched in relief.
Bucknell starter Dylan Seeley held NDSU to one run on four hits with no walks and three strikeouts over six innings to even his record at 2-2.
Yoder finished with five RBIs and two runs scored, Brouse was 3-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored, and left fielder Drew Constable was 3-for-4 for Bucknell.
North Dakota State is scheduled to play Nebraska-Omaha at 6:30 p.m. ET on Monday in a late addition to the schedule to replace a previously rained out game.
