Centenary Completes Series Sweep Over North Dakota State, 8-2

SHREVEPORT, La.--Alex Todd homered and drove in three runs to lead Centenary to an 8-2 victory over North Dakota State in Summit League baseball Sunday, April 18, at Shehee Stadium.

Centenary swept the four-game series and improved to 17-14 overall and 7-1 in The Summit League.  North Dakota State dropped to 12-18 overall and 3-5 in the league.

The Gents jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning on Todd's RBI single, a sacrifice fly from Ryan Bell, and a two-run homer from Jeff Schaffert.

Centenary starter Seth Lugo held the Bison to one hit through four innings before NDSU scored twice in the fifth.  Kenny Beese and Max Casper started the inning with back-to-back singles and both scored on Justin Kline's double and an error in left field.

Todd belted his fifth home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth and then singled in another run in the seventh before the Gents scored twice in the eighth for the final margin.

Lugo evened his record at 1-1 with the win.  He allowed two runs on four hits with four walks and four strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.

NDSU starter Zach Wentz dropped to 1-2 with the loss.  Wentz allowed six runs on 11 hits with one walk and five strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.

Kline was 2-for-4 to lead the Bison.  Todd and Michael Tompkins were both 3-for-4 for Centenary.

North Dakota State is scheduled to host Mayville State at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, before traveling to IPFW for a four-game series starting Friday, April 23.
