Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MINNEAPOLIS--The University of North Dakota snapped an 11-game losing streak with an 8-4, 3-1 doubleheader sweep of North Dakota State in college baseball Sunday, April 4, at the Metrodome.

In the opener, Josh Ray drove in four runs and Derek Biermaier struck out 12 in a complete-game victory for UND (3-14).

The Sioux jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  Ray started the scoring with a two-run double, Josh Nelson hit an RBI double, and Jeff Bunch hit an RBI single with two outs.

NDSU (7-12) got three runs back in the bottom of the first.  Tim Jallen and Justin Kline drew back-to-back walks to start the inning, Jallen scored on a Zach Wentz single, and the Bison scored on a ground ball from Tyler Steen and a Nic Obey single.

The teams went scoreless until the fifth when UND's Andy Sadler hit a one-out single and scored on Ray's double to the wall in left-center.

NDSU got back within 5-4 in the sixth when Jallen hit a one-out double down the left-field line and scored on Kline's single to left field that was mishandled by Ray.

The Bison left the bases loaded in the sixth when pinch-hitter Zach Heidmann struck out swining, and the Sioux tacked on three unearned runs in the seventh to put the game away.

Ray was 2-for-3 and Nelson 2-for-4 to lead the Sioux attack.  Biermaier improved to 1-4 on the year despite issuing six walks and seven hits in seven innings of work.

Wentz was 3-for-3 for the Bison.  Starting pitcher Kyle Kingsley allowed seven runs, five earned, on eight hits with one walk and two strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.  Kingsley dropped to 3-1 with the loss.

In the nightcap, UND's Sam Anderson (2-2) pitched six innings for the win and Brandon Baumgartner set the Bison down in order in the seventh for his first save of the year.

UND got an RBI ground ball from Jake Magner to go ahead in the third, and Jabby Bakhit put the Sioux ahead 2-0 in the fourth with a two-out single through the right side.

North Dakota State scored in the fifth when Kline hit a one-out double and scored on Wentz's single to right field.  The Bison left three men on in the fifth, and Anderson and Baumgartner combined to retire the last eight straight hitters.

Josh Lagein reached on a hit-by-pitch in the seventh, moved up on Andy Sadler's single through the left side, and scored on Magner's single to left-center to give the Sioux a two-run cushion.

Bakhit and Sadler were both 2-for-3 to lead the Sioux.  Wentz finished 2-for-4 for the Bison.

NDSU and UND are scheduled to close the four-game series with another doubleheader at 12 p.m. Monday, April 5, at the Metrodome.
