Box Score FARGO, N.D. - North Dakota State sophomore Holly Christian scored two first half goals to lead the team to a 4-3 victory over North Dakota on Friday, Aug. 20. On a muggy afternoon, 691 fans came out to see the Bison start the season 1-0. North Dakota is 0-1 on the season.
UND got on the board early as Caitlyn Haring chipped in a shot from about 20 yards out in the fifth minute.
The Bison answered back nine minutes later as Christian tallied her first goal of the night. She scored her second on a header off a cross from senior Quin Ryan only four minutes later.
NDSU took a 3-1 lead in the 33rd minute as freshman Katie Tallas scored the first goal of her Bison career. She slotted the ball into the lower right corner after a through ball from junior Morgan DeMike.
The Bison increased their lead 10 minutes into the second half as Ryan slid the ball past UND goalie Monica Stierman off an assist from fellow senior Candice D'Arcangeli.
North Dakota's Rachael Loomis tightened the game after scoring on a free kick just outside the box in the 76th minute. Rachel Dallman brought UND within one in the 86th minute as she put the ball in the upper right corner.
The Bison defense held strong in the final minutes and withstood a last second UND corner kick to earn the win.
Redshirt freshman Kathy Kelsey picked up the win in goal after making eight saves in the game. NDSU outshot UND, 20-15, but UND held a 11-9 edge in shots on goal.
The Bison are back in action at the Ellig Sports Complex Friday, Aug. 27 as they take on Green Bay at 4:30 p.m.
