FARGO, N.D. - Mike Felt scored a career-high 22 points and sank eight consecutive free throws in the closing stretch to lead North Dakota State past Oral Roberts 80-74 in Summit League men's basketball Thursday, Jan. 6, before a crowd of 2,774 at the Bison Sports Arena.
Michael Tveidt added 18 points for the Bison (8-6, 2-2), who snapped a three-game losing streak and won their sixth straight at home. Eric Carlson had 14 points and Freddy Coleman 12 points and a career-high seven assists.
Damen Bell-Holter led the Golden Eagles (5-11, 2-3) with 17 points. Ken Holdman had 15, Warren Niles 12 and Roderick Pearson 11.
Oral Roberts, which has lost four straight, pulled into a 72-72 tie when Bell-Holter sank two free throws with 1:22 left.
Felt hit two free throws with 1:05 left to put the Bison up 74-72. But after Pearson fouled Felt with 11.6 seconds left, two technicals were assessed against Oral Roberts coach Scott Sutton. Felt drained six in a row, four on the technicals, to clinch it.
NDSU trailed 52-51 midway through the second half before Felt scored eight straight points on a pair of free throws and back-to-back 3-pointers. Felt was 4 of 6 from the arc.
ORU had a 25-23 edge in total rebounds. NDSU shot 56.0 percent compared to 50.9 percent for the Golden Eagles.
North Dakota State is scheduled to host Centenary at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8. The Gents are 0-16 overall and 0-5 in the league after an 86-62 loss at South Dakota State on Thursday night.
