Stephanie Jacobson's 48th minute goal lifted the North Dakota State soccer team to a 1-0 win over South Dakota in Summit League action on Sunday, Oct. 23. The Bison (14-2-2, 7-0-1 Summit) earned their 14th win of the year, tying a school record for season wins.
The team also tallied its school record 11th shutout of the year, breaking the record of 10, which was achieved four times. Senior goalkeeper Kalani Bertsch earned her ninth shutout of the season, setting a school record for single season shutouts. Bertsch also tied Kelly Tierney's career shutout record of 19.
After a scoreless first half, Jacobson wasted no time giving NDSU the lead. Off an Abbey Moenkedick throw-in, Holly Christian flicked the ball to Jacobson, who volleyed it into the back of the net at the 47:37 mark for her second goal of the season.
The Bison continued to push for a second goal, taking six more shots and forcing four saves from Coyotes goalie Mackenzie Victor. Rebecca Pederson's 89th minute chance at an equalizer was sent wide.
Bertsch made five saves in the win. The Bison outshot the Coyotes, 15-8, and held a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal.
NDSU travels to South Dakota State Saturday, Oct. 29 with the Summit League regular season title on the line. Both teams have already clinched tournament berths and go into Saturday's contest with identical 7-0-1 league records.
The Summit League tournament will be held in Rochester, Mich. Nov. 4-6.
