Box Score BEAUMONT, Texas - Kevin Roebuck hit a leadoff single in the 11th inning and scored on a wild pitch two outs later to give Lamar a 5-4 win over North Dakota State in college baseball Sunday, Feb. 27, at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
It was the fifth straight win for Lamar, which improved to 6-3 with the four-game series sweep. North Dakota State fell to 0-7 on the year with its third straight one-run loss.
NDSU tied the game in the top of the ninth when Nick Colwell reached on a walk, reached second on an infield throwing error, moved to third on a passed ball, and scored on Tyler Steen's second sacrifice fly of the game.
Colwell was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and hit an RBI double to start the NDSU scoring in the third inning. Tim Colwell, Tanner Adam and Jay Hartman had two hits apiece for the Bison.
NDSU starting pitcher Zach Wentz allowed four runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts in seven innings. Reliever Luke Anderson had three strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings and dropped to 0-1 with the loss.
Lamar jumped out to a 3-0 lead through the first two innings and got a strong start from Eric Harrington, who fanned 11 batters and scattered nine hits over five innings of work. Harrington had six strikeouts in the first two innings.
Cody Laird pitched the final 2 1/3 scoreless innings for Lamar and improved to 1-0 with the win. Roebuck, Andy Mena and Aaron Buchanan each had two hits for the Cardinals.
North Dakota State is scheduled to play a four-game series at Murray State next weekend.
