Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Illinois State's seventh and eighth hitters combined for nine RBIs to lead the Redbirds to a 10-3 win over North Dakota State in college baseball Sunday, March 13, in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at Chain of Lakes Stadium.
First baseman Zach Amrein was 3-for-5 with five RBIs and right fielder Brock Stewart was 4-for-5 with four RBIs. They each hit back-to-back RBI doubles on 0-2 pitches with two outs in the sixth inning to give the Redbirds a 3-0 lead.
Illinois State (10-5) broke it open in the seventh when Amrein hit a three-run double and Stewart followed with a two-run homer, both with two outs again, and suddenly the Redbirds were up 8-0.
North Dakota State (0-13) got all three of its runs in the bottom of the eighth. Blake Turbak led off with a pinch-hit double and scored on Tim Colwell's one-out single, and Zach Wentz homered for the second straight game to bring the Bison within 8-3.
Amrein and Stewart delivered back-to-back RBI singles in the ninth for the final margin.
Wentz was 2-for-4 and Wes Satzinger was 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Bison attack. Wentz pitched six innings and dropped to 0-3 with the loss. He allowed three runs on nine hits with one walk and six strikeouts.
Illinois State starter Ryan Camp allowed three runs on eight hits with two walks and five strikeouts and improved to 2-0 with the victory.
North Dakota State is scheduled to play Bucknell at 11 a.m. ET on Tuesday, March 15, at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla. Bucknell (5-7) has won five of its last seven heading into a Monday game against Bradley.
