Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. - Matt Corpora homered in the top of the ninth inning to give Akron a 1-0 win over North Dakota State in college baseball Wednesday, March 16, in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at Henley Field.
The left-handed hitting Corpora pulled the first pitch of his at-bat down the right field line for one of only three Akron hits in the game, which lasted only 97 minutes.
North Dakota State had five hits, including a double and a ninth-inning single by Zach Wentz, who extended his hitting streak to 12 games. Nick Colwell also finished 2-for-3 for the Bison.
Max Casper was the only NDSU base runner to reach third base after a leadoff bunt single in the sixth inning.
Both pitchers threw complete games. Akron's Andrew Brown evened his record at 2-2 with seven strikeouts and one walk, and NDSU's Colby Tognetti dropped to 0-2 with no walks and three strikeouts.
It was the shortest nine-inning game on record at NDSU since beginning Division I play in 2005.
North Dakota State is scheduled to face Bradley at 11 a.m. ET on Thursday, March 17, at Chain of Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Fla. The Braves were 9-5 heading into Wednesday's game with Jacksonville State.
