Box Score OMAHA, Neb. - Cleanup hitter Trever Adams hit his team-leading fifth home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Creighton to a 3-2 win over North Dakota State in college baseball Monday, March 28, at the CU Sports Complex.
Creighton (17-5) got a leadoff double from Michael Mutcheson and Adams connected on an 0-1 pitch two outs later to give the Bluejays their eighth one-run victory of the year and their 20th straight win over NDSU (2-16).
The blast came off Bison ace Zach Wentz, the seventh pitcher of the game for NDSU after a nine-day layoff. Wentz dropped to 0-4 on the year and went 0-for-4 at the plate to end his 14-game hitting streak.
Adams had all three RBIs for Creighton, which went ahead 1-0 in the first with an unearned run. The Bison tied it in the fourth when Zach Heidmann drew a leadoff walk and scored with two outs on a wild pitch.
NDSU went ahead in the fifth when Nick Anderson hit a leadoff double, moved to third on Max Casper's sacrifice bunt, and scored on Nick Colwell's single through the left side of the infield.
The Bison left two runners aboard in the sixth and eighth innings, then went down in order in the ninth against Kurt Spomer, who upped his record to 1-2 with the win.
Colwell finished 2-for-5 and Tyler Steen was 2-for-4 for NDSU, which outhit Creighton by an 8-4 margin. Jimmy Swift and Joey Bowens had the other two hits for the Bluejays.
North Dakota State is scheduled to play Concordia Moorhead at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 31, at the Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex in Moorhead.
