Box Score

MURRAY, Ky. - Leadoff hitter Zach Noonan was 6-for-6 with a home run and seven RBIs to lead Murray State to a 17-7 win over North Dakota State in college baseball Friday, March 4, at Reagan Field.

Noonan had an RBI double as part of a three-run second inning and belted a grand slam in the third as the Thoroughbreds (3-6) went up 9-1 after three innings.

First baseman Zach Wentz went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored for North Dakota State, which lost its eighth straight game to start the season.  NDSU's first six hitters each had at least two hits as the Bison pounded out a season-high 16 hits.

NDSU was down 12-3 and made two outs on three pitches in the sixth inning before rallying for three runs.  Nick Colwell started it with a five-pitch walk and moved to second on a wild pitch before scoring on a Tanner Adam single.  Wentz followed with an RBI double and scored on Tyler Steen's single through the left side.

Murray State answered with three runs in the seventh when Noonan and Ty Stetson started the inning with back-to-back doubles and Travis Isaak hit a two-run homer.  Noonan and Stetson's hits both came on full counts after Noonan fouled off one pitch and Stetson four.

The Thoroughbreds forced the 10-run-rule victory in the eighth when Elliot Frey hit a one-out RBI triple and scored on Noonan's single on the next play.

NDSU starter Kyle Kingsley dropped to 0-3 with the loss.  Kingsley allowed five runs on six hits with no walks and one strikeout in two innings.

Murray State starter Luke Shuemaker allowed six runs on 12 hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in six innings for the victory.

The teams are scheduled to play a four-game series with a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday beginning at noon both days.
