Box Score 2 MURRAY, Ky. - Jake Donze pitched a complete game with six strikeouts to give Murray State a doubleheader sweep of North Dakota State in college baseball Sunday, March 6, at Reagan Field.
Donze allowed one run on five hits over seven innings and the Thoroughbreds (5-6) squeezed in the winning run on Paul Ritzheimer's bunt in the third inning of the 2-1 win.
Ritzheimer was 4-for-5 with three RBIs to lead Murray State to a 12-7 win in the opener, including a three-run single that capped a six-run sixth inning for the Breds.
Nick Colwell and Jay Hartman had three hits apiece in the opener for NDSU (0-10). Tyler Steen hit a two-run double and Tim Colwell had a two-run single as the Bison rallied for four runs with two outs in the seventh inning and trimmed the deficit to 10-7.
Zach Wentz was the losing pitcher in Game 1. He allowed four runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts in five innings and dropped to 0-2 on the year.
Wentz had a pair of run-scoring hits in the doubleheader, and both came in the first inning as the Bison jumped out to 1-0 leads in both games.
NDSU stranded six runners on base in the nightcap, including three in scoring position.
Murray State tied it in the third with a leadoff walk to Brandon Elliott and back-to-back one-out singles by Jacob Rhodes and Brandon Eggenschwiler. Ritzheimer bunted with a 1-0 count to go ahead on the next play.
Mark Hermes dropped to 0-3 with the loss in Game 2. He allowed two runs on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings before giving way to Luke Anderson, who pitched the final 1 1/3 scoreless.
North Dakota State is scheduled to play its next seven games in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational beginning Friday, March 11, against Bowling Green at Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven, Fla.
