Bison Extend Winning Streak to Five With Doubleheader Sweep at Oakland

ROCHESTER, Mich. - North Dakota State pounded out 28 hits and extended its winning streak to five games with a 4-1, 9-1 doubleheader sweep at Oakland in Summit League baseball Friday, April 15.

North Dakota State, which has won six of its last 10 games, improved to 7-18 overall and 4-2 in The Summit League.  Oakland fell to 7-18 overall and 1-5 in the league.

NDSU starter Colby Tognetti (1-3) pitched eight shutout innings in the opener and the Bison manufactured single runs in the fourth, sixth, eighth and ninth innings.  Tim Colwell was 3-for-4 to lead the attack and Nick Colwell drove in two.

The Bison jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap on a bases-loaded walk to Nic Obey and a two-run double by Tim Colwell.  NDSU got a single run in the fourth and broke it open late with three runs in the eighth and two in the ninth.

Mark Hermes (2-5) pitched 5 1/3 innings for the win and Kyle Kingsley shut down Oakland for the final 3 2/3 innings for his first save of the year.  Kingsley came on to get a ground-ball double play to end the sixth, struck out four and allowed only two hits the rest of the way.

Tyler Steen had three hits in the second game and five others had two hits apiece for the Bison.  Obey and Tim Colwell each had two RBIs.

North Dakota State and Oakland are scheduled to complete the four-game series with a 1 p.m. ET doubleheader on Saturday, April 16, weather permitting.  The games will be moved to Sunday, April 17, if necessary.
