Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

FARGO, N.D. - Colby Tognetti pitched six innings and Nic Obey drove in the winning run with a single in the third inning to lift North Dakota State to a 5-3 win over Oral Roberts in the first game of a Summit League baseball doubleheader Saturday, April 23, at Newman Outdoor Field.

Oral Roberts (18-15, 7-3) struck for six runs in the first inning and starter Sean Johnson went seven innings with eight strikeouts as the Golden Eagles won the nightcap 10-0 in eight innings.  NDSU (10-19, 7-3) had an eight-game winning streak snapped.

Tognetti upped his record to 2-3 with the win and had four strikeouts and one walk while scattering five hits.  The only damage came on Cam Schiller's solo homer in the first and two-run homer in the third.

NDSU trailed 3-1 before scoring four times in the third inning.  The inning started with a pair of walks to Zach Wentz and Tyler Steen, and a Blake Turbak single loaded the bases to set up a sac fly by Nick Colwell.

Zach Heidmann's RBI groundout tied the game, Obey's single down the left field line gave NDSU its first lead, and Tim Colwell bounced a single through the right side to make it 5-3.

Tognetti and ORU starter Drew Bowen matched each other with three scoreless innings after that.  Tognetti got a swinging strikeout of No. 8 hitter Spencer Barnett to leave the bases loaded in the sixth.

Kyle Kingsley a scoreless seventh and eighth, and Jason Mattila tossed a perfect ninth for his third save of the year.  Kingsley has thrown 14 1/3 straight scoreless innings and 19 1/3 without a walk.

In the nightcap, ORU sent 10 batters to the plate in the first inning and took advantage of three walks and a hit batter by NDSU starter Mark Hermes to jump ahead early.

Schiller's third home run of the day gave ORU an 8-0 lead in the fourth inning, and the Golden Eagles tacked on single runs in the sixth on a sac fly by Schiller and in the eighth on Brandon King's fourth home run of the year.

King finished 2-for-3 with four runs scored to lead ORU.  Steen and Tim Colwell each had two hits for NDSU.

North Dakota State and Oral Roberts are scheduled to wrap up the four-game series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Sunday, April 24.  It will be a nine-inning game followed by a seven-inning game.
