Box Score GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Brandon Brekke scored 17
points to lead North Dakota to a 59-54 win over North Dakota State in college
men's basketball Tuesday, Jan. 17, before a crowd of 7,169 at the Ralph
Engelstad Arena.
North Dakota's Josh Schuler had 11 points off
the bench, including two free throws with 6.2 seconds left for that iced it for UND (8-9).
Marshall
Bjorklund had 13 points and seven
rebounds for North Dakota State (13-5) and Mike
Felt made 4 of 11 three-pointers to finish with 12 points for the Bison,
who shot a season-low 33.3 percent from the floor.
Neither team led by more than five
points. UND trailed 50-45 with less than 6 minutes to play when Schuler
hit a 3-pointer and Brekke scored after an NDSU miss to tie it up.
It was 52-52 when NDSU's Dylan Hale was whistled for an intentional foul at the 2:10 mark. Brekke converted 1 of 2 free throws to go
ahead, and UND got the ball back only to run 30 seconds off the clock before a
missed 3-pointer.
NDSU missed a contested layup out of a
timeout on the next possession, and Patrick Mitchell's putback with 50.2
seconds left made it 55-52.
The Bison missed a 3-pointer on their next
trip down, and Aaron Anderson's two free throws with 18.1 seconds left
stretched UND's lead to five. Anderson
finished with 12 points and Mitchell had 10.
Lawrence
Alexander had eight points and four rebounds, Taylor Braun had eight
points, eight rebounds and three assists, and TrayVonn
Wright finished with eight points and five rebounds for NDSU.
North Dakota State, third in The Summit
League with a 6-2 record, is scheduled to host second-place South Dakota State
(15-5, 7-1 Summit) at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21.
