North Dakota State Clinches Summit Tournament Bid with 1-0 Win at Omaha

Box Score

OMAHA - North Dakota State junior Jenna Miller hadn't taken a shot all year prior to Sunday's game at Omaha, but in the 57th minute, she scored a goal to catapult the Bison women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory and lock up a spot for NDSU in the four-team Summit League Tournament.

North Dakota State will be the No. 3 seed for the Summit Tournament and meet No. 2-seeded Fort Wayne in a semifinal match on Nov. 2 in Brookings, S.D. Game time is 6 p.m. at Fishback Soccer Park.

Miller found herself at the end of an Anisha Kinnarath corner kick with just over 33 minutes left in the contest and beat Omaha goalkeeper Meaghan Clark for the winning goal. Her shot was NDSU's first of the game.

Bison goalkeeper Sierra Bonham made a great performance, registering nine saves and her third shutout of the season. Bonham ran her season total to 102 saves - the second-most in a single season in school history. Kalani Bertsch set the single-season record with 111 saves in 2008.

Kinnarath recorded her seventh assist of the year with the corner kick that set up Miller's game-winner. She led The Summit League with five assists in conference play and is the only player in the league this season to record at least five goals and five assists.

North Dakota State (8-9, 5-3 Summit) was outshot 15-2 overall and 9-1 in shots on goal for the game, but the win gave the Bison three valuable points in the standings to pass South Dakota State and clinch a spot in the league tournament.

With 15 points, NDSU finishes the regular season in a tie for third place in the Summit League standings. The Bison will be the No. 3 seed by virtue of their 2-1 victory over Western Illinois on Oct. 12 in Fargo.

Oakland claimed the regular season title and top seed for the tournament with a 1-0 win over Western Illinois on Sunday. Those two schools will meet for a rematch in the Summit League semifinals, as Western Illinois earned the No. 4 seed.

North Dakota State will make its fourth straight appearance in the Summit League Tournament.
