Box Score FARGO, N.D. - Alex Young scored a game-high 21 points and IUPUI never trailed in a 74-68 win over North Dakota State in Summit League men's basketball Thursday, Feb. 23, before a crowd of 2,513 at the Bison Sports Arena.
Stephen Thomas had 14 points and five assists for IUPUI (14-16, 7-10), Ian Chiles scored 12 and Christian Siakam got his second double-double of the year with 10 points, 11 rebounds and three steals.
Marshall Bjorklund scored a team-high 17 points and had six rebounds for NDSU (17-11, 9-8), Lawrence Alexander scored 13 of his 16 points in the second half, and Taylor Braun had 14 of his 15 after halftime. Eric Carlson added 11 points.
NDSU trailed by as many as 12 points with 7:18 left to play, but cut the deficit to 64-61 on a Mike Felt corner 3-pointer at the 2:20 mark. IUPUI closed out the game making 8 of 10 free throws, including 5 of 6 from Thomas.
IUPUI shot 47.2 percent overall and went 5 of 11 from the 3-point line for 45.5 percent. The Jaguars made 19 of 22 free throws for 86.4 percent.
North Dakota State was 39.3 percent from the field and 5 of 22 from the arc for 22.7 percent. The Bison went 15-for-22 at the foul line for 68.2 percent.
NDSU had a 36-31 edge in total rebounds led by Carlson and Braun with eight apiece. The Bison dropped into fourth place in the Summit League standings behind Oakland, which won by 33 at UMKC on Thursday.
North Dakota State closes out the regular season against Western Illinois at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25. The Fighting Leathernecks are 14-13 overall and 8-9 in the league after losing 74-57 at South Dakota State on Thursday.
