Big Inning Leads North Dakota State Past Bucknell, 16-8

Box Score

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Zach Wentz and Wes Satzinger each homered and North Dakota State turned a nine-run third inning into a 16-8 win over Bucknell on Monday, March 12, in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at Chain of Lakes Stadium.

Trevor Jaunich, Simon Anderson and Kyle Kingsley closed out the game with five shutout innings of relief for North Dakota State, which improved to 9-5 on the year with its third straight win.  Jaunich struck out three and got the win to move to 1-0.

Bucknell (7-4) jumped out to a 3-0 lead through two innings before NDSU sent 13 batters to the plate in the third to go ahead for good.  Four singles and a sacrifice fly cut the deficit to 3-2 before a dropped foul ball prolonged an at-bat for Wentz, who hit the next pitch over the left field wall for a 4-3 lead.

It was 10-8 after four innings and remained scoreless until the eighth when NDSU got a leadoff double from Tim Colwell, a walk to Nick Colwell, and a three-run homer from Satzinger one out later to expand the lead to 13-8.

Tim Colwell doubled again in the ninth and finished 3-for-5, and Satzinger was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs including a sacrifice fly.  Nick Colwell, Nick Anderson, Michael Leach and Max Casper all had two hits apiece.

North Dakota State is scheduled to play Lafayette at 6 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 14, at Chain of Lakes Stadium.
