Former Bison Amanda Smock to Compete at IAAF Indoor World Championships

Former North Dakota State track and field All-American Amanda Smock, formerly Thieschafer, will compete in the triple jump at the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships this weekend.

Smock won the U.S. title in the indoor triple jump Feb. 26.  She won the event on her fifth attempt with a mark of 45 feet 2 1/4 inches, beating out Olympian Erica McLain.  Smock will be the only triple jump competitor for Team USA at the World Championships.

The 2012 World Indoor Championships will be held in Istanbul, Turkey March 9-11.  The triple jump preliminaries are scheduled for Friday, March 9 at 9:30 a.m. Central.  The final will be Saturday, March 10 at 5:05 p.m. Central.

Smock is also the defending U.S. champion in the outdoor triple jump.  This will be Smock's second trip to the World Championships as she also competed at the 2011 World Outdoor Championships in Korea, where she finished 17th in her preliminary group.

Smock won three national titles in the triple jump during her NDSU career and was a 13-time Division II All-American.
