Bison Drop 2012 Opener to Idaho State in OT, 3-2

Box Score

BOISE, Idaho - The North Dakota State University women's soccer team came up short in its 2012 season opener on Friday evening, dropping a 3-2 overtime decision to Idaho State at the Boise State Holiday Inn Classic.

NDSU traded goals with Idaho State on two different occasions. Junior Steph Jacobson opened the scoring for the Bison, finding the back of the net with a free kick in the 10th minute, but Idaho State answered almost immediately with a goal off the head of Rachel Strawn in the 11th minute.

With the score still knotted at 1-1 in the 64th minute, the Bengals' Kiley Godfrey snuck a shot past Bison goalkeeper Sierra Bonham to give Idaho State the 2-1 advantage.

Like Idaho State's goal in the first half, NDSU's response was immediate. Sophomore Tristyn Walczak beat the goalkeeper just one minute later, tying the game at 2-2.

Idaho State (1-0-0) received the game-winner on a deflected shot from Strawn in the 93rd minute.

Redshirt freshman Sierra Bonham made her first career appearance in goal for the Bison, recording seven saves.

Walczak and sophomore Anisha Kinnarath each came off the bench to tally two shots for NDSU. Idaho State outshot the Bison 22-6.

Friday's match marked the first game for the Bison under first-year head coach Mark Cook.

NDSU (0-1-0) will face host Boise State on Sunday, August 19, at 3 p.m. (CT).
