Box Score GREELEY, Colo. - Jenni Fassbender hit .500 and had 15 kills to lead North Dakota State to a 19-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-20 victory over Air Force in college women's volleyball Friday, Aug. 31, at the Hampton Inn and Suites Northern Colorado Classic.
Fassbender, a freshman outside hitter from Kaukauna, Wis., led all players in kills and hitting percentage. She made four digs and was in on five blocks for the Bison, who outblocked Air Force by a 16-5 margin.
North Dakota State (1-3) got 14 kills and 15 digs from Brynn Joki, 11 kills and six blocks from Carissa Whalen, and eight kills and eight blocks from Megan Lambertson. Libero Andrea Henning made 22 digs.
NDSU setter Emily Riese had 27 assists and teammate Catherine Yager finished with 18 assists and seven blocks as the Bison outhit the Falcons by a .286 to .152 margin.
Ayesha Hein hit .481 with 13 kills and Cami Richan had 12 kills for the Falcons (1-4). Air Force libero Maiya Perich made a match-high 25 digs.
The Falcons put up four of their five total blocks in the first-set victory, but NDSU came out swinging after that.
Fassbender had four out of five straight Bison kills to build an 8-3 lead in the second set and NDSU rolled with 17 kills and only two errors.
The third set was tied 15-15 before a six-point NDSU run highlighted by three kills from Joki to put the Bison ahead for good.
Whalen's kill from Yager followed by a double block by the duo gave NDSU a 6-5 lead in the fourth set and the Bison led by as many as six points down the stretch.
It was the 1,100th victory in NDSU volleyball program history dating back to 1965. The Bison continue tournament play Saturday, Sept. 1, against Oklahoma at 10 a.m. MDT and Northern Colorado at 7 p.m. MDT.
