Box Score FARGO, N.D. - The North Dakota State women's soccer team conceded a goal at the last possible second to force overtime, but the Bison responded for a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Bemidji State in their home opener at the Ellig Sports Complex on Friday afternoon.
Leading Bemidji State 1-0 with just seven seconds remaining in the second half, NDSU faced a BSU free kick from just inside midfield. The teams played 10 scoreless minutes in the first overtime to force a second overtime period. Nearly eight minutes into the second overtime - in the 108th minute - sophomore Anisha Kinnarath struck a cross that found freshman Lizzie Lukas in front of the goal. Lukas did not hesitate, putting a shot past BSU goalkeeper Brittany Tietz to seal the NDSU victory.
The game-winner was Lukas' second of the young season. She also scored a game-winner to top Eastern Washington on Aug. 24.
Senior Jordyn Wallenborn gave NDSU its initial lead in the 24th minute, taking a cross from Mary Krambeer and knocking home a quick shot.
Redshirt freshman Sierra Bonham started in goal for the Bison, recording one save and keeping BSU scoreless for the first half. McCormick took over at halftime and played the final 63 minutes, registering two saves.
Kinnarath tallied seven shots and three shots on goal to once again lead the Bison in both categories.
The Bison owned a 22-9 edge in total shots and a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal.
NDSU will face in-state rival North Dakota on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 1 p.m. in Grand Forks.
