
Bison Maintain First Place Tie in Summit With 73-65 Victory Over Oakland

FARGO, N.D. - TrayVonn Wright had career highs of 20 points and five blocks to lead North Dakota State to a 73-65 win over Oakland in Summit League men's basketball Saturday, Jan. 12, before a crowd of 3,390 at the Bison Sports Arena.
Lawrence Alexander added 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Bison (15-3), who won their eighth straight home game to remain tied with Western Illinois atop The Summit League at 6-0. Marshall Bjorklund scored 15 points and Taylor Braun had 11.
Ryan Bass had 22 points and Travis Bader scored 21 including five 3-pointers for Oakland, which dropped to 7-12 overall and 2-3 in the league. Duke Mondy had 12 points and 12 assists, and Corey Petros grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
NDSU made up for a 10-of-22 night at the foul line by shooting 60.5 percent from the floor including 11 of 20 from 3-point range. Wright had a career-high four 3-pointers and Alexander and Braun made three each.
The Bison led 40-28 at halftime and stretched it to 13 points early in the second half. Oakland was no closer than four points the rest of the way.
Bader scored eight straight OU points to pull the Golden Grizzlies within 52-48 with 12:05 left in the game. NDSU responded with five straight points from Braun, who got a steal and layup and made a 3-pointer off his missed free throw.
Oakland was within 70-65 with 1:18 to play, but Alexander made 3 of 4 free throws and OU missed its final three field goal attempts and had a pair of turnovers on the final five possessions.
The game was delayed for 19 minutes midway through the first half due to a power outage at the official scorer's table.
North Dakota State is on the road for its next three games beginning Thursday, Jan. 17, against IUPUI at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Bison are at first-place Western Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 19.
