INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The North Dakota State women's soccer team opened Summit League play with a 2-0 shutout win over the IUPUI Jaguars Friday, Oct. 4, in Indianapolis.
Both Bison goals came courtesy of Anisha Kinnarath, who tallied her second brace of the season and now has a team-high six goals on the season.
Kinnarath's first tally occurred in the 34th minute when she directed a rebound shot off the goalpost into the back of the net from 15 yards out, giving NDSU the 1-0 lead. She completed the brace in the 61st minute, scoring her second goal of the match after she headed Sheri Fitzsimmon's cross home, increasing the NDSU advantage to 2-0.
The Bison defense and goalkeeper Sierra Bonham held IUPUI scoreless the remainder of the second half to complete the shutout and give NDSU the win.
NDSU outshot IUPUI 16-12 in the match and had a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks taken.
Bonham went the full 90 minutes between the pipes, making four saves while allowing no goals to post her third shutout of the season and improve to 4-5 overall.
With the win, NDSU moves to 5-6 overall and 1-0 in The Summit League while IUPUI falls to 4-4-3 and 0-1 in league play.
The Bison return to the pitch Sunday, Oct. 6, when they travel to Macomb, Ill. to battle Western Illinois in Summit League action. First kick is set for noon.
