Box Score CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Kirk Kenneally, Wes Satzinger and Michael Leach all homered to help lift North Dakota State to a 9-6 win at Southeast Missouri State in college baseball Saturday, Feb. 23.
North Dakota State trailed 4-2 through four innings, but Kenneally homered to lead off the fifth, Leach doubled in John Skrbec after a walk, and Leach scored on Trevor Jaunich's single to put the Bison (3-2) ahead for good 5-4.
Blake Turbak doubled and scored on Skrbec's bunt in the sixth, Satzinger led off with a homer in the seventh, Turbak bunted in Jaunich later in the seventh to make it 8-4.
Southeast Missouri State (5-2) answered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh when Cole Bieser doubled and Matt Tellor homered, but Leach went deep to start the NDSU eighth and Bison closer Kyle Kingsley got four of the final five outs by strikeout for the save.
NDSU starter David Ernst pitched six innings for the win to even his record at 1-1. Ernst allowed four runs, three earned, on eight hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Simon Anderson and Jake Heck each pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief.
Seven players had at least two hits for North Dakota State, which had a season-high 16 hits in the game. Freshman second baseman Jon Hechtner went 3-for-5 to lead the Bison.
SEMO starter Zack Smith threw 98 pitches in just four innings of work allowing four runs on seven hits with four walks and five strikeouts but did not factor in the decision. Reliever Alex Winkelman dropped to 2-1 with the loss.
The final game of the series is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24.
