Bison Fall to Jacks in Summit League Championship Game, 73-67

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Tournament MVP Nate Wolters scored 27 points to lead South Dakota State to its second straight Summit League men's basketball championship 73-67 over North Dakota State on Tuesday, March 12.

Wolters added six rebounds, six assists and four steals for the Jackrabbits, who improved to 25-9 overall and earned The Summit League's automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.

All-tournament pick Taylor Braun scored 23 points and TrayVonn Wright added nine points, eight rebounds and three blocks for North Dakota State, which dropped to 24-9 with the loss.

South Dakota State never trailed after a 10-0 run fueled by four North Dakota State turnovers that gave the Jacks a 13-7 lead at the 12:09 mark of the first half.

SDSU led 29-25 at halftime and started the second half with a pair of mid-range jumpers from Tony Fiegen and a Brayden Carlson 3-pointer to make it a double-digit lead.

Mike Felt buried three 3-pointers in a span of three minutes to help NDSU close within 54-52 at the 7:23 mark of the second half, but Wolters beat the shot clock with a 3 on the next possession to swing the momentum back.

Jordan Dykstra's 3-pointer and a pair of Fiegen free throws with 3:39 to play stretched SDSU's lead to 62-54, and the Jacks went up nine with 32.8 seconds left.

SDSU made 14 of 15 free throws in the second half including 11 of 12 in the final 3:39 of the game.  The Jacks outscored the Bison 21-10 at the line.

Dykstra finished with 18 points and seven rebounds, and Fiegen had 12 points for the Jacks.

A crowd of 6,544 was on hand at Sioux Falls Arena.  It was the fourth-highest attended game in league history and the most for a championship in Sioux Falls.
