Box Score 2 MINNEAPOLIS - Tim Colwell scored twice and John Straka pitched three scoreless innings for his first career save as North Dakota State beat Northern State 5-2 in the first game of a college baseball doubleheader Saturday, March 23, at the Metrodome.
North Dakota State scored five runs in the second and seven in the fourth to roll to a 16-2 win in the second game. Kyle Kleinendorst was 5-for-6 and Blake Turbak hit two triples and his second home run of the season to lead the Bison (10-9).
Kleinendorst and Nick Altavilla had two hits apiece for NDSU in the opener and David Ernst pitched the first four innings to up his record to 4-2 with the victory. Ernst allowed one earned run on five hits with one walk and one strikeout.
NDSU scored twice in the first and twice in the second, scoring the winning run in the second when Kleinendorst singled, stole second, moved to third on a wild throw, and scored on Altavilla's single.
Robbie Rocamora and Buddy Traxler had two hits each for Northern State (7-7) in the opener. Starter Clint Manzo allowed five runs, four earned, on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts in four innings and dropped to 2-2 with the loss.
Bison starter Trevor Jaunich allowed two runs, one earned, on seven hits with one walk and six strikeouts in the nightcap and improved to 2-1 with the win. Adam Lambrecht, Simon Anderson, Parker Trewin and Kyle Kingsley each threw scoreless innings of relief.
Turbak tied an NDSU school record with his two triples and Kleinendorst tied the team single-game record with five hits including two doubles and a triple. Turbak was 3-for-6 with five RBIs and Jon Hechtner drove in four runs.
Cameron Lehner went 3-for-4 for Northern State in the second game. Nathan Nietfeld, the first of six Wolves pitchers, allowed five runs on four hits with three walks and no strikeouts and dropped to 0-2 with the loss.
North Dakota State returns to the Metrodome for a four-game series against North Dakota on Friday, March 29, and Saturday, March 30.
