Stalpes Leading Bison Women in California Invitational Heptathlon

AZUSA, Calif. – North Dakota State senior Emily Stalpes was the top performer for the Bison women's track & field team at the California Invitational on Wednesday afternoon. Through the first four events at the nation's largest heptathlon meet, Stalpes sits in 23rd place with 2,735 points.

Stalpes cleared 5-04.50 (1.64m) in the high jump to tie for the eighth-best mark in the 31-woman field.

Sophomore Ashley Heinze is currently in 25th place in the heptathlon with 2,653 points, Twila Moser is 27th with 2,646 points, and freshman Lexy Boschee is 30th with 2,414 points.

Heinze, the Summit League leader in the heptathlon this season, is 81 points ahead of the pace she set in establishing her league-leading score at the Aztec Invitational on March 14-15, when she scored 2,572 points on the first day.

Heinze recorded an outdoor personal-best mark of 27-06.75 (8.40m) in the shot put on Wednesday and then ran the second-fastest 200m of her Bison career at 25.76 seconds.

The Bison multi-events quartet will conclude competition at the California Invitational heptathlon on Thursday. Throwers Katie Johnson and Emily Lesser will compete in the hammer throw at Cerritos College starting at noon (CT), and Erin Teschuk (1500m) and Maddie McClellan (3,000m steeplechase) will take part in the opening day of the Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday afternoon.
