MINNEAPOLIS - Michael Handel had three RBIs and Minnesota scored four unearned runs to beat North Dakota State 5-3 in college baseball Wednesday, April 24, at Siebert Field.

Second baseman Wes Satzinger staked NDSU to an early lead with a solo homer in the second inning.  It was Satzinger's first at-bat since a March 15 wrist injury.

Minnesota scored two unearned runs in the fifth to go ahead and made it 5-1 in the seventh when Handel hit a two-run homer and Dan Olinger hit a run-scoring double with two outs.

NDSU got two runs back in the eighth when Kyle Kleinendorst tripled to center field scoring Jon Hechtner from second and Kirk Kenneally from first with two outs.

The Bison used eight pitchers with Zach Mayo getting his first collegiate start.  Jay Flaa was the only pitcher to work more than one inning.  He struck out two batters in a scoreless second and third innings.   Brian VanderWoude (0-1) took the loss.

Ben Meyer, the second of five Minnesota pitchers, pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings and evened his record at 4-4 with the victory.  Billy Soule gave up a leadoff walk to Nick Altavilla in the ninth but got a double play and strikeout for his eighth save.

North Dakota State continues Summit League play with a four-game series at Omaha beginning at 2 p.m. Friday.  The Mavericks are 14-16 overall and lead the league with an 8-0 record.
