Box Score 2 BROOKINGS, S.D. - Jon Hechtner drove in two runs and Kyle Kingsley struck out four batters in two innings for the save as North Dakota State beat South Dakota State 3-1 in the second game of a Summit League baseball doubleheader Saturday, April 6, at Erv Huether Field.
Daniel Telford's three-run homer capped a five-run fifth inning for South Dakota State (13-11, 1-2) in the opener as the Jackrabbits won 5-4. NDSU's Nick Altavilla drove in two runs in the third inning and Tim Colwell and Kyle Kleinendorst had RBIs in the fourth for a 4-0 lead.
North Dakota State (14-12, 2-1) took advantage of three South Dakota State errors in the seventh inning to score three unearned runs in the nightcap.
Andy Wicklund reached on an error and NDSU had runners at second and third after Colwell beat out a bunt and moved up on a throwing error. Hechtner laced a two-run single to center field and later scored on a throwing error after being caught between bases.
Parker Trewin pitched four scoreless innings and Adam Lambrecht improved to 3-0 with three innings of relief. Kingsley allowed a two-out single in the eighth and struck out the side in the ninth for his second save of the season.
SDSU starter Steven Bougher (3-1) struck out six in five innings of work for the win in the opener and Chad Hodges fanned three for his second save of the year. They combined to retire the final 10 NDSU hitters in order.
NDSU's David Ernst pitched 4 2/3 innings and dropped to 4-4 with the loss allowing five earned runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Simon Anderson pitched the final 1 1/3 innings.
The four-game series finishes up with a single nine-inning game at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 7.
