Box Score BROOKINGS, S.D. - South Dakota State earned a four-game series split with a 3-0 win over North Dakota State in Summit League baseball Sunday, April 7, at Erv Huether Field.
SDSU starter Adam Bray (3-1) struck out seven in seven innings of work and J.D. Moore pitched the final two innings for his sixth save of the year as the Jackrabbits improved to 14-11 overall and 2-2 in the league.
NDSU starter Trevor Jaunich (2-3) went 6 1/3 innings allowing one earned run on five hits with three walks and six strikeouts. The Bison dropped to 14-13 overall and 2-2 in the league after collecting a season-low four hits - all singles.
Each team had just two hits through five innings. Jaunich escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the sixth when he got a strikeout and ground ball to keep it a 0-0 game.
North Dakota State didn't advance a runner past second base until the seventh when Tim Colwell singled, moved to second on a bunt, and was thrown out at home by SDSU right fielder Scott Splett trying to score on Blake Turbak's one-out single.
The Jacks broke through in the seventh when Eric Danforth led off with a single, advanced to second on a bunt and scored on Paul Jacobson's single. Jacobson went to second on a failed pickoff and stole third before scoring on Splett's two-out single for a 2-0 lead.
SDSU tacked on an insurance run in the eighth against NDSU reliever Simon Anderson when Daniel Marra led off with a single and scored on Reid Clary's one-out double.
North Dakota State continues Summit League play on the road with doubleheaders Friday, April 10, at Oakland and Sunday, April 12, at Fort Wayne.
