Bison Volleyball Shows Promise in Loss to No. 17 Louisville

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State volleyball team nearly claimed the first set in a showdown with No. 17-ranked Louisville, but the Cardinals ultimately took the set and went on to sweep NDSU 25-23, 25-17, 25-11 on Friday, Sept. 6, at the Doublewood Inn Classic inside the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
 
Freshman middle blocker Emily Miron racked up 13 kills and a .320 attack percentage to lead NDSU offensively. Louisville (2-1) hit .370 for the match to outpace NDSU's .078 hitting percentage. The Cardinals were led by 13 kills from Emily Juhl and 12 from Maya McClendon.
 
Freshman defensive specialist Emily Milligan led NDSU with 10 digs. Setter Monica Claxton had 22 assists.
 
The Bison battled nationally ranked Louisville closely in a first set that saw five lead changes and 13 ties. NDSU led 11-7 early and eventually held a 22-20 advantage before Louisville took five of the last six points to claim the set.
 
NDSU led 8-6 and 6-4 in the second and third sets, respectively, before falling victim to the efficient Louisville attack.
 
NDSU (0-4) will meet Wisconsin (4-0) at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, followed by a 7 p.m. nightcap against Northern Iowa (1-4).
