ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The North Dakota State University women's 4x400m relay team of
Morgan Milbrath,
Ashley Tingelstad,
Ashley Heinze and
Paige Stratioti capped a record-breaking 2014 indoor season by placing 11th at the NCAA Indoor Championships and earning second-team All-American honors on Saturday, March 15.
NDSU ran 3:36.07 for the second-fastest relay time in school history, trailing only the school record mark of 3:34.57 they set on Feb. 22 of this year.
The top eight finishers are named first-team All-Americans, while the next four teams earn second-team honors. This is the fifth indoor All-American honor of NDSU's Division I era.
Tingelstad, the lone senior of the group and the school record holder in the indoor 400m, led the team with a 53.09 split for her 400m. Stratioti clocked in at 53.46 seconds. Heinze and Stratioti are juniors, and Milbrath is a freshman.
In a span of six weeks, the quartet ran the four fastest 4x400m relay times in NDSU history and trimmed 6.55 seconds off the previous school record as it appeared on Feb. 1. Milbrath, Tingelstad, Heinze and Stratioti were the first NDSU relay team to advance to the NCAA Division I Championships – indoor or outdoor.
Oregon ran 3:27.40 to win the event and set a new collegiate record.
