FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State University Bison women's soccer team claimed a 2-1 victory over the Bemidji State University Beavers Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Dacotah Field in their final exhibition match before beginning regular season play.
The Bison are scheduled to host North Dakota Friday, Aug. 22, at 7 p.m. in the regular season opener at Dacotah Field.
Anisha Kinnarath gave the Bison a 1-0 advantage in the 22nd-minute after she scored a goal off a
Jaclyn Scanlan assist. Scanlan charged down the left side of the field and directed the ball towards Kinnarath, who hammered it into the lower right corner of the net.
The Bison went into halftime with the 1-0 edge and held a 5-1 advantage in shots taken.
NDSU went up 2-0 in the 54th-minute when
Lauren Miller powered a pass from Kinnarath just outside the box into the center of the net. The Beavers pulled within 2-1 after an own goal in the 65th-minute, but the NDSU defense prevented Bemidji State from equalizing the final 25 minutes, sealing the 2-1 victory.
For the match, the Bison outshot the Beavers, 10-4, while both teams each took three corner kicks.
Sierra Bonham and
Jenna Zaeske combined to make three saves in goal for the Bison in the winning effort with Bonham tallying the victory between the pipes.
Sonja Barr took the loss in goal for the Beavers.
