Bison Prevail in Overtime at IUPUI, 69-61

INDIANAPOLIS – The North Dakota State men's basketball team exploded for 16 points in overtime to pull out a 69-61 victory on the road at IUPUI on Thursday night. With the victory, the Bison improve to 13-6 overall and 5-1 in The Summit League to stay in first place.
NDSU has now won seven of its last eight games. The Bison have emerged victorious in five straight meetings with IUPUI.
Senior Lawrence Alexander recorded his eighth game of 20-plus points this season, tallying 24 to lead all players. He shot 9-of-17 from the floor and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.
The Jaguars and Bison battled through 15 lead changes and 12 ties in the contest. Neither team led by more than four points over the first 40 minutes.
IUPUI's Khufu Najee drained a jumper in the lane to tie the game at 53-53 with 1:44 left. The Jaguars had a chance to win it at the end of regulation, but Mason Archie's three-pointer missed at the buzzer.
NDSU shot 5-of-6 in the overtime period, getting two driving buckets from Alexander, a three pointer from A.J. Jacobson, a dunk by Chris Kading, and a tough layup from Carlin Dupree to build a 64-56 advantage.
Dexter Werner and Jacobson each scored 10 points for the Bison. Kading pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds to go along with six points, three blocks and two steals.
IUPUI (7-13, 3-3 Summit) received 10 points apiece from Aaron Brennan and P.J. Boutte.
NDSU made just 3 of its first 10 attempts from the free throw line, but connected on 7 of the last 8 tries to seal the game.
The Bison play at Fort Wayne on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. CT.
