North Dakota Turns Back NDSU Volleyball 3-0

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Courtney Place had a match-high 12 kills and McKenzie Hart came up with 28 digs as the University of North Dakota defeated North Dakota State University 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-19) in a non-conference match played Tuesday, Oct. 13, before 2,232 spectators at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.
NDSU (12-9, 3-4 Summit League) is scheduled to host the University of Denver (18-4, 6-1 Summit League) at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
UND (16-7, 4-2 Big Sky) scored six of the last eight points in the pivotal second set to record the win. The second set was tied 10 times, the last coming at 19-all when Brianna Rasmusson connected on a kill from the right side. The Bison did trim the lead to 22-21 on a Jenni Fassbender attack, but UND scored the final three points of the set.
North Dakota outhit NDSU .244 to .116 in the match. Chelsea Moser followed Place with 11 kills and hit .286 in the match. Moser also led UND with four blocks. Sydney Griffin finished 34 assists.
Fassbender led North Dakota State with 11 kills. Defensively, Mikaela Purnell led the Bison with 22 digs, recording her fifth 20-plus dig match of the season and third out of the last four. Monica Claxton had 17 kills and 14 digs, while Rasmusson added 16 assists, nine digs and seven kills.
