NDSU Volleyball Connects for 3-0 Summit League Win over Fort Wayne

FARGO, N.D.--Emily Miron connected for 14 kills, hit .412 and had four blocks as North Dakota State University defeated Fort Wayne 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-13) in a Summit League match played Friday, Nov. 6, before a season-high 862 fans in the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse. The Bison completed the series sweep of the Mastodons.
NDSU (16-11, 7-6 Summit League) is scheduled to host league-leading IUPUI (19-7, 10-3 SL) at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, in the final regular season home match. The Jaguars are playing at Denver tonight.
Fort Wayne (6-22, 3-9 SL) made things interesting after dropping the first set against North Dakota State and took a 21-17 lead. The second set went back and forth with 13 ties and seven lead changes. The Mastodons broke a 16-16 tie with a 5-1 run including kills from Natalie Seiler and Nicole Rightnowar, along with a service ace from Somer Johnson.
The Bison proceeded to rattle off eight straight points to close out the second set and regain the upperhand. Emily Minnick ripped three kills, Monica Claxton served up an ace, Hadley Steffen went right angle with a kill, and Minnick and Steffen combined on block for the win.
NDSU raced out to a 15-5 lead in the third set and never looked back. Miron was the ring-leader at the net with six of her match-high 14 kills and contributed two of her four blocks. The Bison hit .419 in set three and .330 for the match as Brianna Rasmusson (19) and Claxton (14) combined for 33 assists. Jenni Fassbender had 10 kills to reach double-figures for the 23rd time this season and 67th in her career. Minnick finished with eight kills and three blocks.
North Dakota State displayed balance in the back row as Rasmusson came up with 11 digs, Mikaela Purnell and Claxton both had 10 and Steffen added nine.
Rightnowar led Fort Wayne with nine kills and a pair of blocks, while Olivia Hahn came up with a match-high 15 digs. Madison Jaqua had 29 assists.
