Bison Women Fall at North Dakota Saturday, 71-54

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The North Dakota State University women's basketball team fell to the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks, 71-54, on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 12, in front of 2,564 spectators at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center in Grand Forks.
Sophomore guard Taylor Thunstedt led the Bison (2-7 overall) with a career-high 26 points on 8-of-18 shooting from the field, including a 5-for-11 performance from three-point range, while junior forward Brianna Jones and senior guard Marena Whittle each scored 11 points and pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
The Bison shot just 32 percent from the field in the game, going 20-for-62, and went 6-for-15 from three-point range for 40 percent.
North Dakota State was outrebounded by North Dakota (4-5 overall) in the contest, 50-32.
The Bison held a 17-15 lead at the end of the first quarter after Thunstedt drove to the basket and converted a layup at the buzzer, but UND rattled off an 11-2 run to start the second quarter and never trailed again in the game.
Mia Loyd posted a double-double with 18 points and a game-high 14 rebounds to lead the Fighting Hawks.
North Dakota shot 44 percent from the field and 33 percent from beyond-the-arc and outscored NDSU in the paint, 40-18, in the game.
North Dakota State is scheduled to face North Carolina A&T in the opening game of the Wichita State Shocker Winter Classic on Friday, Dec. 18, in Wichita, Kan.
