FARGO, N.D. – Four Bison scored in double figures as the North Dakota State University women's basketball team defeated Cal State Fullerton, 79-64, in front of 408 spectators on Monday, Dec. 28, inside the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse to conclude non-league play.
NDSU is scheduled to open Summit League play on Wednesday, Dec. 30, at Omaha. Tip-off from Baxter Arena in Omaha, Neb., is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Senior
Marena Whittle tallied her third straight double-double with a game-high 20 points and 17 rebounds, and added a career-high eight assists to lead the Bison (5-8 overall), while freshman
Kennedy Childers poured in a career-best 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field.
Taylor Thunstedt reached double digits for the sixth consecutive contest, scoring 15 points, and
Brooke Yaggie added 14 points on 4-for-5 shooting.
NDSU used a 10-0 run late in the fourth quarter to take control of the game, tuning a five-point advantage into a 15 point edge after Whittle drilled a jumper with 3:11 to go in the stanza.
The Bison shot 50 percent from the field and a blistering 62 percent from three-point range in the game and posted a 39-30 advantage over the Titans in rebounding.
Michelle Berry tallied a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards to lead the Titans (2-12 overall).
Cal State Fullerton shot 41 percent from the field for the game, but just 29 percent from long range.
