PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – The North Dakota State baseball team (1-7) dropped two games in the Snowbird Baseball Classic on Saturday, Feb. 28, at South County Regional Park in Punta Gorda, falling in game one to Mount St. Mary's (1-0), 7-3, before dropping the second contest to Boston College (3-6), 12-2.
The Bison are scheduled to face Villanova on Sunday, March 1, in their final game of the Snowbird Classic. First pitch is slated for 10:30 a.m. ET (9:30 a.m. CT) at South County Regional Park in Punta Gorda, Fla.
In the first contest of the day against Mount St. Mary's, NDSU southpaw
Parker Trewin (0-0) struck out a career-high 11 batters over six innings of work, but had to settle for a no decision.
Brian VanderWoude (0-1) took the loss on the mound for NDSU.
Drew Fearing paced the Bison at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a pair of runs-batted-in.
Ben Petersen also collected a RBI in the contest.
After falling behind 2-0 early, NDSU was able to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a RBI single through the left side from Fearing.
Mount St. Mary's answered, though, knotting the game at three in the top of the sixth before scoring four runs in the seventh to gain a 7-3 lead.
Game two saw Boston College score eight runs in the top of the second inning and never look back.
North Dakota State was able to plate two runs in the bottom of the seventh on a hit by pitch and bases loaded walk.
Fearing collected two hits in the contest, while
Taylor Sanders,
Jeron Terres, and
Brayden Resch each tallied one hit.
Andy Wicklund and
Jon Hechtner drove in NDSU's two runs.
Trent Keefer (0-1) took the loss on the mound for North Dakota State.
Donovan Casey led the Eagles at the plate, going a perfect 5-for-5 with a double and two RBI.
Jesse Adams (1-0) picked up the win on the mound for Boston College after allowing no earned runs on four hits with eight strikeouts and one walk in five innings of work.
