FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The North Dakota State University women's soccer team (5-4-0) closed out the NAU Mountain Classic with a 2-1 win against Grand Canyon (3-5-1) on Sunday, Sept. 20, at Lumberjack Stadium in Flagstaff.
Juniors
Amy Yang and
Lauren Miller scored the two goals for the Bison, with Miller and freshman
Roxy Roemer also tallying assists in the match.
North Dakota State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after Yang powered a pass from Miller into the back of the net in the seventh-minute. It was Yang's fourth goal and Miller's fourth assist of the season.
The Bison doubled their advantage to 2-0 just four minutes later when Miller netted her team and Summit League-high seventh goal of the season on a feed from Roemer. It was Roemer's second assist of 2015.
Grand Canyon netted a goal in the 71st-minute, trimming the Bison lead to 2-1, but the NDSU defense didn't allow another goal the remaining 19 minutes to seal the victory.
Senior goalkeeper
Sierra Bonham improved to 5-4-0 in goal on the season after making a match-high eight saves in 90 minutes and only surrendering one goal.
GCU goalkeeper Blakely Fraasch suffered the loss between the pipes to fall to 3-5-1 overall.
North Dakota State is scheduled to return home to Dacotah Field on Sunday, Sept. 27, to host UC Riverside at 1 p.m.
