Bison Drop Sunday Afternoon Contest to UC Riverside, 1-0

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State University women's soccer team (5-5-0) dropped a 1-0 decision to UC Riverside (6-5-0) on a warm Sunday afternoon, Sept. 27, in front of 479 spectators at Dacotah Field. The loss was NDSU's first of the season at home.

The Bison are scheduled to open Summit League play on Friday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m. at Dacotah Field against the Omaha Mavericks.

UC Riverside's Blanca Barrio netted what turned out to be the game-winning goal on a penalty-kick in the 26th-minute of the match after NDSU was whistled for a foul just inside the box.

For the match, the Bison posted an 18-11 advantage in total shots, while each team tallied five corner kicks. UC Riverside committed 12 fouls, compared to four for North Dakota State.

Genna Joyce paced the Bison offense with two shots on goal, while Lauren Miller tallied nine shots with one shot on goal.

NDSU goalkeeper Sierra Bonham made two saves in 90 minutes between the pipes, but took the loss to fall to 5-5-0 overall.

UC Riverside goalkeeper Elizabeth Silas tallied to win to move to 6-5-0 on the season after allowing no goals with six saves in 90 minutes.
