NDSU Shuts Down South Dakota State for 68-57 Triumph

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State men's basketball team limited South Dakota State to 29-percent shooting on the way to a 68-57 victory over the Jackrabbits on Saturday evening at Scheels Arena.
NDSU improved to 13-6 overall and 3-2 in The Summit League with the win. SDSU, the preseason favorite to win the league, fell to 14-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
Bison sophomore Paul Miller led all players with 17 points, draining four three-pointers in a game for the seventh time this season. Senior Kory Brown finished with 14 points, a career-high seven assists, and six rebounds for NDSU.
George Marshall led SDSU with 16 points. South Dakota State made just 19-of-66 shots (29 percent) in the game, while NDSU shot 22-for-50 (44 percent).
The Bison used a 10-0 run over a two-minute stretch of the first half to open up a 24-11 advantage. Khy Kabellis drained a pair of free throws, Dylan Miller added a bucket, and then Kabellis and senior Chris Kading hit back-to-back treys for NDSU.
The Bison led 32-17 at halftime. SDSU battled to pull within eight at 63-55 following a Reed Tellinghuisen three-pointer in the final minute of the game, but NDSU sealed the victory with a fast-break dunk from Dexter Werner and a pair of free throws by Paul Miller.
Werner led the Bison with eight rebounds. Miller has now made four three-pointers in four of his last five games.
The Bison have now won 10 of the last 11 games against South Dakota State in Fargo and 11 of the last 16 meetings overall.
The announced attendance of 4,272 was the second-largest in Scheels Arena basketball history.
NDSU will go on the road for two games next week, starting with Fort Wayne on Thursday, Jan. 21.
