FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The North Dakota State University women's soccer team rolled to a 5-0 shutout win over the Fort Wayne Mastodons on Sunday, Oct. 23, at Hefner Field in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
With the win, the Bison improve to 9-7-1 overall and 4-2-1 in Summit League play while Fort Wayne falls to 3-12-2 on the season and 0-4-2 in league action.
Holly Enderle recorded a brace with two goals, leading NDSU, while
Britney Monteon netted her first goal of the season and dished out two assists.
Malley O'Brien and
Hannah Butzlaff also both scored a goal, with Butzlaff also recording an assist.
Amy Yang tallied an assist, respectively.
Monteon opened the scoring for North Dakota State in the 40th-minute, firing a shot into the back of the net from 18 yards out off a pass from Butzlaff to give the Bison the 1-0 lead. Enderle increased the NDSU advantage to 2-0 less than a minute later when she controlled a pass from Yang and sent it into the right side of the goal.
The Bison didn't waste any time adding to their lead in the second-half, as O'Brien scored just 1:29 into the frame off a long cross-pass from Monteon, building the NDSU advantage to 3-0. Enderle scored her second goal of the contest in the 50th-minute, corralling a long cross from Monteon and sending it into the left side of the net, to complete the brace and balloon the North Dakota State lead to 4-0. Butzlaff added the fifth and final goal for the Bison, knocking in a deflected corner kick in the 59th-minute.
With the brace, Enderle now has a team and Summit League-high 10 goals on the season.
For the match, the Bison outshot Fort Wayne, 23-9, including a 12-3 advantage in shots on goal.
NDSU goalkeeper
Monica Polgar earned the win to improve to 8-7-0 overall after allowing no goals while making two saves in 65 minutes between the pipes.
North Dakota State is scheduled to host IUPUI on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. at Dacotah Field in the final match of the regular season.
