North Dakota State Adds 3 Women’s Track & Field Signees

NDSU Track & Field on Twitter

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's track & field team added three more signees to its incoming 2017 class on Thursday, pushing the early total to nine signees for the program.

Michaela Baker, a jumper/hurdler from Brooklyn Park, Minn.; Kylee Bergantine, a jumper from Fargo, N.D.; and Cara Haussler, a sprinter from Bismarck, N.D., have signed National Letters of Intent to compete for the Bison.

Baker (Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) was the Minnesota Class AA state champion in the triple jump as a sophomore in 2015. She has been the state runner-up in the long jump the past two years, as well as placing third in the triple jump and taking eighth in the 100m hurdles as a junior in 2016. This past summer at the USATF National Junior Olympic Championships, she finished eighth in the triple jump and ninth in the long jump. Baker owns impressive personal-best marks of 40-5 in the triple jump, 19-0 in the long jump, and 14.66 seconds in the 100m hurdles.

Coach's Take: "Michaela has already shown herself to be one of the top triple jumpers in the nation, but she still has a lot of potential. She will be a great fit at NDSU and contribute in a number of events."

Bergantine (Fargo Davies HS) is the reigning North Dakota Class A state champion in the long jump and triple jump after winning both titles as a junior in 2016. She was the state runner-up in the triple jump as a sophomore in 2015. Bergantine has posted high school personal-best marks of 38-5 in the triple jump and 18-3 in the long jump.

Coach's Take: "Kylee has proven she can compete at a championship level, and she will be ready to make an impact in our jumps group."

Haussler (Bismarck HS) was the North Dakota Class A state runner-up in the 100m dash, 200m dash and 400m dash as a sophomore in 2015, as well as placing fifth at the state meet in the long jump. She has posted impressive times of 12.24 seconds in the 100m, 24.88 in the 200m, and 56.64 in the 400m.

Coach's Take: "Cara has great speed but also great range from 100 meters to 400 meters. She will fit well with our great NDSU tradition of success in the sprints and long sprints."

The NDSU women's track & field team has won 18 straight Summit League team titles – nine indoor and nine outdoor – since joining the league in 2008. There were 42 schools from the Power 5 conferences (SEC, Pac-12, Big Ten, Big 12, ACC) that had fewer NCAA Prelims entries than the Bison women in 2016.
