Bison Women Coast to 79-59 Exhibition Victory Over Bemidji State

FARGO, N.D. – Senior Brianna Jones and junior Taylor Thunstedt each posted a double-double as the North Dakota State University women's basketball team coasted to a 79-59 victory over the Bemidji State Beavers in an exhibition game played before 680 spectators on Thursday, Nov. 3, at the new Scheels Center. The game marked the first-ever women's basketball contest in the new facility.
Jones netted a game-high 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field and pulled down 10 rebounds, while Thunstedt scored 14 points and snagged 10 boards. Thunstedt also dished out a game-high four assists.
Freshman Sarah Jacobson tallied 10 points and was one of six Bison freshmen to score in the game.
North Dakota State took control of the game with an 18-0 run from the end of the first-quarter through the beginning of the second-quarter. Jones began the run with a pair of made free throws with 1:14 to go in the first, and the Bison held the Beavers scoreless until Tatum Sheley hit a jumper with 6:12 remaining in the second period.
The NDSU lead reached a game-high 27 after Jacobson converted a layup with 8:20 to go in the third quarter.
North Dakota State shot 44 percent from the field for the game, going 33-for-75, and made 11 of 19 free throws for 58 percent. The Bison outscored the Beavers in the paint, 46-30, and posted a 48-39 advantage on the boards.
Sheley led Bemidji State with 18 points on 7-of-16 shooting, while Sierra Senske posted a team-high eight rebounds.
North Dakota State is scheduled to host Dickinson State (N.D.) to open the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 12. Tip-off at the Scheels Center is slated for 7 p.m.
