NDSU Splits Doubleheader at Iowa State

AMES, Iowa — North Dakota State University split a non-conference doubleheader at Iowa State University, winning the first game 4-1 and dropping the second 7-2, on a chilly Saturday, March 26, at Cyclone Sports Complex. NDSU co-head coach Jamie Trachsel picked up career win No. 200 in the first game.

NDSU (18-12) will open Summit League play at IUPUI on Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3 in Indianapolis. The single-game with North Dakota scheduled for Wednesday, March 30, has been moved to Wednesday, April 13, due to field conditions and construction of new dugouts.

Both teams did their scoring in the first game with two outs in the sixth inning. The Bison used a Zoe Stavrou sacrifice fly and Alyssa Reina three-run home run to take a 4-0 lead. It was Reina's second home run of the season. Iowa State countered with a Kaylee Bosworth with a solo home run in the bottom half of the inning.

Jacquelyn Sertic (13-5) went the distance to pick up the win. Sertic allowed five hits, struck out five and walked two. Jenna Isbel finished with a pair of base hits for NDSU.

Savannah Sanders (5-8) and Mandi Moore worked on the mound for Iowa State with Sanders taking the loss. The pair combined to strike out seven, allow five hits and walk three. Brittany Gomez led the Cyclones with two hits.

North Dakota State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after three innings in game two. Isbel's ground out knocked in one in the second and Logan Moreland launched a solo home run, her third on the season in the third.

However, Iowa State (14-14) rode the shoulders of Sammie Hildreth, who connected for a pair of three-run home runs – the first in the fourth and the second in the fifth to spark the offense. Hildreth also had a double to complete a 3-for-3 effort at the plate.

Kaitlyn "KK" Leddy (4-7) and Sertic pitched for NDSU with Leddy picking up the loss. The pair combined to allow eight hits, strikeout three and walk two.

Iowa State's Emma Hylen (7-3) worked around five walks to earn the win. She struck out two and allowed two hits.
