OMAHA, Neb. – The North Dakota State baseball team split a doubleheader at Omaha on Sunday, March 27, to conclude a three-game Summit League series at the Ballpark at Boys Town, winning game one, 2-1, before dropping the second contest, 12-2 in eight innings.
Sophomore infielder
Drew Fearing went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Bison (11-10, 2-4 Summit League) in game one, while junior outfielder
Ben Petersen drove in a run. Senior

North Dakota State right-handed starter
Reed Pfannenstein (2-0) tallied the win in game one after allowing one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts in five innings. Right-hander reliever
Brian VanderWoude secured his first save of the season after tossing four innings and surrendering no earned runs on two hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
The Bison plated their two runs in the game on a Petersen sacrifice hit in the first-inning and an Omaha fielding error in the fourth.
First baseman Ryan Cate paced Omaha (14-10, 5-1 Summit League) in the first contest, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Sam Murphy (2-1) took the loss on the mound after giving up two runs, one earned, on five hits with two strikeouts and a walk in six innings.
Fearing and Petersen both went 2-for-4 in the batter's box to lead the Bison in game two.
NDSU left-hander
Blake Stockert (0-2) suffered the loss on the mound after allowing six runs, four earned, on six hits in 2 1/3 innings.
The Mavs plated a combined six runs in the first three innings of game two and never looked back, rolling to a 12-2 win.
Third baseman Clayton Taylor paced the Mavericks in the second contest, going 4-for-5 at the plate with a homer, three runs scored and five RBI.
UNO starter Corey Binger (4-0) posted the win on the mound after throwing 5 1/3 innings and allowing two earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
North Dakota State is scheduled to travel to Tulsa, Okla., for a three-game league series at Oral Roberts April 1-3.
